Comments from women who completed at least one full yoga series:

  • My mother passed away during these classes.  I was able to use yoga to cope with the emotions of her loss.
  • Yoga helps me to be more understanding of others and their issues/problems.  I’m less quick to respond to animosity.

When  “Laotong Yoga Prison Project” was initiated at MOCC, I didn’t know if it would be well received by inmates housed at the facility. However, they have been extremely receptive and I have learned through discussions with maximum-security adult male inmates that they thoroughly enjoy this program and receive not only a muscle benefit, but a benefit of the mind.Inmates tell me that they feel calmer and medically stronger. Calmness in an institutional environment is crucial; and this program is giving these inmates the tools and techniques to de-escalate situations versus immediately resorting to violence.
